What is Isopropyl Palmitate?
Isopropyl palmitate (IPP), is a low-viscosity lipophilic non-ionic surfactant, is a very valuable auxiliary raw material in cosmetics, and is used for advanced cosmetics such as creams and hair conditioners. Isopropyl palmitate is insoluble in water, but miscible with organic solvents such as alcohol, ketone, methylene chloride, grease, etc., and the general dosage is 2%~10% (mass fraction). Paste and lotion are white, bright and delicate, improving product quality.
In the industry, it is also commonly used as a humidity conditioner, a penetrating agent, and a solvent for spices and colorants. In view of these physical and chemical properties of isopropyl palmitate, it can be expected that isopropyl palmitate will become one of the important raw materials for cosmetic industry applications in the future. Isopropyl Palmitate Uses
- Isopropyl palmitate is an aliphatic ester similar to isopropyl myristate, used as a seasoning ingredient in the food industry. It is one of the volatile compounds found in Psidium salitare fruits and boiled buckwheat flour.
- Isopropyl palmitate is used to prepare and evaluate the suitability of Planck lecithin organic gel containing flurbiprofen for local application, and to characterize the microemulsion system of isopropyl palmitate, water and 2:1 Brij 97 and 1-butanol through different experimental techniques.
- Isopropyl palmitate is a type of emollient and moisturizing agent, and can also be used as an adhesive and solvent. Similar to isopropyl myristate, it is a mixture of palmitic acid (coconut oil or palm oil) and isopropanol. Enzymes can metabolize this component, and research has not shown any allergic reactions or toxicity. Some sources indicate the possibility of causing acne.
- Isopropyl palmitate is a small particle oil with a little molecular weight that can penetrate the skin, prevent water evaporation, hydrate the skin, and boost symptoms such as dryness as well as dehydration.
