What is Fatty Alcohol Ethoxylate?
Fatty alcohol polyoxyethylene ether (FAE) is a non-ionic environment-friendly and “green” surfactant, mainly used in detergents, personal care (such as shampoo) and textile and leather processing.
Fatty alcohol ethoxylates are transparent liquid substances based on fatty alcohol (FA) in the oil chemical chain and ethylene oxide (EO) in the petrochemical chain. HELM focuses on natural FA produced from palm kernel oil or coconut oil with different carbon chains and EO components. Commercial alcohol ethoxylates are mixtures of several homologues with different carbon chain lengths and degrees of ethoxylation. The non ethoxylated homologues are also referred to as fatty alcohols or simply as fatty alcohols. The primary alcohol ethoxylate is prepared by the ethoxylation reaction of primary alcohol and ethylene oxide, and reacts with potassium hydroxide or sodium hydroxide by alkali catalytic reaction.
Then neutralize with acid such as acetic acid or phosphoric acid. Most commercial alcohol ethoxylates are manufactured and delivered as solids, pastes, or solutions.
Fatty Alcohol Ethoxylate Uses
- Alcohol, C9-11, ethoxylated, can be used as emulsifier and surfactant, breaking the surface tension of water, and used to clean objects. It is mainly used in detergents and personal care products, such as hair gel, styling foam and other products.
- Aliphatic alcohol polyoxyethylene ether is used as hard surface cleaner, sulfonated into sodium lauryl ether sulfate (SLES), detergent, cleaner, tableware washing, personal care (such as shower gel and shampoo), cosmetics, leather and textile processing, and paint and agricultural fields.
