What is Ethyl Myristate?
Myristic acid is a kind of saturated fatty acid, which is common in animal and vegetable fats, and is often used in cosmetics, soaps, perfume and condiments. It will increase LDL cholesterol, making it one of the fatty acids with the highest cholesterol content in saturated fatty acids. Ethyl myristate is a more hydrophobic form of free acid. It is a sign of excessive alcohol consumption and can be separated from personal hair.
It is reported that oil, elderberry and frankincense leaf oil are found in apricot, grape, pear, pepper, beef, beer, rum, tea, guava, grape, ginger, gruyere cheese, blue cheese, boiled mutton, brandy, whisky, sparkling wine, cocoa, coconut meat, mango and corn.
It is directly esterified by myristic acid and ethanol in the presence of concentrated sulfuric acid. It is obtained by direct esterification of ethanol and myristic acid in the presence of HCl in the gas phase.
Ethyl Myristate Uses
- Ethyl myristate has a mild, waxy, soapy taste, reminiscent of iris.
- The marked ingredient from the natural hawthorn perfume essential oil. It is also often used in cosmetics, soap and condiments.
- GB 2760 1996 stipulates that it is allowed to use edible spices. It is mainly used to prepare coconut and Kangnaike essence; It is also used as solvent for spices.
- Determine according to method 1 of ester determination method (OT-18). The sample size was 1.9 g. The equivalence factor (e) in the calculation is 128.21. Or use non-polar column method in gas chromatography (GT-10-4).
- Ethyl myristate is a kind of fatty acid ethyl ester (FAEE), which can be formed in the body due to the non oxidative metabolism of ethanol. It is also found in vegetable oils. Ethyl myristate is used as an alcohol marker in hair together with other FAEEs.
- Ethyl myristate can be used as an analytical standard to determine analytes as alcohol biomarkers in dry blood spots and hair samples by chromatography based techniques. Ethyl myristate can also be used as an analytical standard to determine the analytes in selected beer flavors by stirring rod adsorption extraction and solvent back extraction.
