Product Description
Iron dextran injection is a complex of iron and dextran. After intramuscular injection, part of the iron is phagocytosed by macrophages and transferred to fibroblasts, the rest of the iron is slowly removed from the injection (72% out of 50%) and lysed into the blood plasma. Three weeks after injection, it is still detectable in the blood. Iron is mainly stored in the reticuloendotheliocytes of the liver and spleen and released slowly for hemoglobin synthesis. This route of absorption is not controlled by the gastrointestinal tract, so the recovery of stored iron is rapid and complete. However, the rate of hemoglobin rise is still the same as that of oral preparation, averaging about 0.15g per day. Iron deficiency anemia effective.
