This can protect paint films from photo-aging. It can replace up to 25% titanium dioxide and is a white, inorganic light stabiliser.

It is used in the plastics and rubber industries as a filler for improving the mechanical properties of the materials, improving dimensional stability and achieving lightweighting of automobile components.

The dry barium sulfate suspension is used to obtain single or double contrast images of the esophagus and stomach. It can also be used for the duodenum and small intestine. This allows the organs to be viewed in their correct position and morphology.

Barium sulfate, the only barium salt that is non-toxic, is the only one available. It is insoluble in both water and the gastrointestinal system, but will not be absorbed into the body. This allows it to be excreted safely through the digestive system. It is used in the pharmaceutical industry as a filler, excipient and for capsules and tablets.
