What is 4-Acetamidobenzoic acid?
White flake crystal. The melting point is 256.5 ℃. Soluble in ethanol, insoluble in water as well as ether.
4-Acetaminobenzoic acid is a type of aminobenzoic acid, which is made up of benzoic acid with acetylamino substituent at placement 4. It is functionally pertaining to 4-aminobenzoic acid. It is a conjugated acid of 4-acetylaminobenzoate.
Acedoben (4-acetylaminobenzoic acid or N-acetyl-PABA) is a compound with the molecular formula of C9H9NO3. It is an acetyl by-product of p-aminobenzoic acid (PABA). Acedoben, as a salt created with dimepranol, is a component of some pharmaceutical prep work, such as inosine pranobex.
Put 860ml of water, 43.0g of MgSO4 and 43.0g of sodium acetate into a 2L three necked flask equipped with a stirrer, an air condenser (drying tube) and a thermometer, and heat the bath with water. Stir the solution heated to 70 ℃ and add 43.0g of Np tolylacetamide. Then add 136.0g KMnO4 in small portions at 75 ° – 80 ℃. Let the reaction mixture stand for 6 hours and continue to stir until the solution becomes colorless. Filter the hot solution and treat the filtrate with hydrochloric acid to weak acidic pH. After that, 44.0g (85%) of p-acetylaminobenzoic acid was obtained, which was a white sediment with a melting point of 250 ℃.
