What is 3-Aminophenol?

m-Aminophnol (MAP) is a widely used fine chemical raw material. With the development of facsimile technology and agricultural technology, the demand for m-aminophenol is increasing year by year as a colorless pressure/heat-sensitive material, pesticide intermediate, and API. In 2012, China’s MAP consumption was as high as 4000t; the country with the largest consumption of m-aminophenol abroad was Japan, whose consumption in 2013 was close to 2500t. In recent years, due to the control of environmental pollution and water and soil pollution, various environmental protection policies have been introduced one after another, and many domestic MAP production plants have withdrawn the project. The main use of m-aminophenol is as a dye intermediate and photographic developer. Acid dyes, direct dyes, sulfur dyes, azo dyes, mordant dyes and fur dyes can be manufactured. m-aminophenol and p-aminophenol are pharmaceutical raw materials, raw materials for herbicides, fungicides and insecticides, and thermosensitive pigments. Ortho-aminophenol is also used as an inhibitor of metal alkaline corrosion, hair dye, rubber anti-aging agent, antioxidant, stabilizer, petroleum additive, catalyst for organic reactions, chemical reagent (m-aminophenol is a gold and silver assay reagent), Intermediates of organic synthesis, etc.

Another important use of m-aminophenol is to synthesize anti-tuberculosis drugs. In 2004, the demand for m-aminophenol for anti-tuberculosis drugs in my country was about 200 tons. The average annual growth rate of demand for m-aminophenol is expected to be 5% in the next few years.

Application of 3-Aminophenol

Meta-aminophenol (MAP), also known as meta-hydroxyaniline, is widely used.

Preparation of 3-Aminophenol

Using m-aminobenzenesulfonic acid as raw material, it can be obtained by alkali fusion and acidification. Stir m-aminobenzenesulfonic acid with water to form a slurry, heat to 60°C, add caustic soda solution dropwise to make the pH 7-8, and filter to obtain m-aminobenzenesulfonic acid sodium salt solution. Put solid caustic soda or liquid caustic soda into the alkali melting pot, heat to melt or evaporate to concentrate, and gradually add m-aminobenzenesulfonic acid sodium salt solution at 275°C. After the addition was completed, the reaction was continued at 275°C for 75 minutes. Dilute the material in sodium sulfite washing solution, filter and separate sodium sulfite. Add 31% hydrochloric acid to the sodium m-aminophenolate solution after separation of sodium sulfite at a temperature below 50°C until it becomes neutral. Cool down to 35°C, precipitate crude m-aminophenol, filter, put the filter cake into the distillation pot, vacuum distillation, and distill the refined m-aminophenol through a tablet machine to obtain a flake product. The yield is 60%. Industrial product m-aminophenol is white crystal, melting point 119-123℃, content ≥98%.
