What is 1-Heptanol?
Heptyl alcohol has weak aromatic fat smell and pungent taste. It can be synthesized by reducing heptaldehyde, which is the distillate of castor oil.
Heptanol has aromatic, woody, heavy, oily, weak, aromatic, fatty smell and pungent taste.
It is reported that it is found in some essential oils, hyacinths, violet leaves, litsea cubeba, and also in apples, bananas, citrus peel oil, orange juice, blueberries, cranberries, blueberries, other berries, currants, melons, papayas, peaches, pears, pineapples, asparagus, peas, potatoes, mustard, cheese, butter, milk, meat, hops oil, beer, cognac brandy, rum, bourbon whisky, wine, cocoa Tea, Albert, pecans, peanuts, soybeans, passion fruit juice, olives, macadamia nuts, mango, tamarind, fgs, cardamom, rice, calamus, dill, corn, malt, kiwi, truffle, nectarine, crabs, crayfish, clams and other sources.
1-Heptanol is produced by reacting hexene with carbon monoxide in the carbonyl synthesis process or by catalytic reduction of heptaldehyde. It has little commercial value except as a spice and artificial flavoring agent.
1-Heptanol Uses
- GB 2760-96 specifies that it is permitted to use edible seasonings. It is mostly utilized to prepare coconut and also nut significance.
- 1-Heptanol is used in the spice industry because of its pleasant smell. It is used as solvent, perfume preparation and organic synthesis.
- 1-Heptanol can be used in trace amounts in carnation, jasmine, spicy, oriental, parsnip root and citrus flavor. It can also be used in the edible essence of coconut and fruity compound.
- Heptan-1-ol is an alcohol. Alcohols, in combination with alkali metals, nitrides and strong reducing agents, can produce flammable and/or toxic gases. They react with oxygen containing acids and carboxylic acids to form esters and add water. Oxidants convert them to aldehydes or ketones. Alcohols exhibit weak acid and weak base behavior. They can initiate polymerization of isocyanates and epoxides.
- 1-Heptanol has three other isomers with straight chains, namely 2-heptanol, 3-heptanol and 4-heptanol. Their difference lies in the position of the alcohol functional group. Heptanol is often used in cardiac electrophysiology experiments to block gap junction and increase axial resistance between myocardial cells. Increasing the axial resistance will reduce the conduction velocity and increase the sensitivity of the heart to reentrant excitation and persistent arrhythmia.
