What is Praseodymium Sulfate Hydrate?

Praseodymium (Pr) material is one of the products of light rare earth metals. Because of its unique physical and chemical properties, its applications in the fields of rare earth permanent magnets, hydrogen storage materials, non-ferrous metals and alloys, pyrophoric alloys, steel and iron continue to develop, and its prospects are very promising. The chemical formula of praseodymium sulfate is Pr2(SO4)3. Molecular weight 570.00. Light green powder. Color varies with purity. The relative density is 3.7216. Dissolved in water. Its octahydrate is a green monoclinic crystal with a relative density of 2.82718.5 and a refractive index of 1.540, 1.549, and 1.561. It is soluble in water, slightly soluble in hot water, and becomes anhydrous salt when heated. Pentahydrate is a green monoclinic crystal with a relative density of 3.17616, soluble in water.

Praseodymium sulfate is an inorganic compound, which is an odorless bright green crystal. It readily absorbs water, forming pentahydrates and octahydrates. It is composed of praseodymium trioxide dissolved in sulfuric acid, from which praseodymium sulfate octahydrate can be crystallized. The product can be purified by “evaporation-redissolution” in an organic solvent. Praseodymium sulfate is stable under standard conditions. Hydrate loses water when heated and becomes slightly white. Like other rare earth metal sulfates, their solubility decreases with increasing temperature, allowing the separation of rare earth and non-rare earth compounds.

Application of Praseodymium Sulfate Hydrate

Praseodymium sulfate can be used to make colored glass, chromium-free passivation solution and some catalysts. Application examples are as follows:

The composition of the passivation solution is: cerium chloride 6-8g/L, lanthanum nitrate 1-3g/L, praseodymium sulfate 2-4g/L, potassium permanganate 8-10g/L, ferrous chloride 12-14g /L, potassium ferrate 3-5g/L, calcium nitrate 1.5-2.5g/L, sodium citrate 6-8g/L, water-based polyurethane 60-66g/L, m-xylylenediamine 6-8g/L, times Nitrotrimethylene triphosphonic acid 7-9g/L, sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate 1-3g/L, and the balance is deionized water.

The passivation solution is specially designed for the characteristics of aluminum alloys used in aviation. It is chromium-free and fluorine-free, and is environmentally friendly. The addition of complex rare earth salts improves the corrosion resistance of the passivation film, and the passivation solution is stabilized by adding potassium ferrate. Waterborne polyurethane and nitrilotrimethylenetriphosphonic acid improve film formation. Therefore, the corrosion resistance of the passivation film prepared by the passivation solution of the present invention is good.

The catalyst is composed of magnesium-calcium-aluminum composite oxide and praseodymium sulfate, and the molar ratio of each component in terms of metal elements is: Mg/Al is 1:1~3:1, Mg/Ca is 5:1~20 :1, Mg/Pr is 10:1~40:1. The preparation method is as follows: preparing magnesium-calcium-aluminum composite oxide by co-precipitation method, spraying and immersing the magnesium-calcium-aluminum composite oxide with praseodymium sulfate solution, drying and roasting to obtain a finished catalyst. When the catalyst improves the selectivity of the target product isophorone, the yield of the product isophorone is improved.

The method comprises the following steps, 1) glass fiber pretreatment; 2) nickel chloride, cobalt chloride, praseodymium sulfate, sodium borohydride, sodium potassium tartrate, sodium metabisulfite and ethylenediamine are dissolved in distilled water respectively; 3) step 2 ) in the fully dissolved nickel chloride, cobalt chloride, praseodymium sulfate, sodium metabisulfite and ethylenediamine solution mixed evenly, then added to the sodium potassium tartrate solution, stirred evenly; 4) sodium borohydride solution was slowly added to step (2 ) the prepared solution, dilute, and adjust the pH value to 11 to 14 with sodium hydroxide; 5) join the glass fiber after pretreatment in step 1) to the plating solution prepared in step 3) to perform electroless tin-nickel plating , the plating temperature is 55-90° C.; 6) drying the Ni-Co-Pr-B glass fiber prepared in step 5).

The Ni-Co-Pr-B glass fiber coating prepared by adopting the technical scheme has high nickel content, good coating binding force, good conductivity and stability.
