Basic copper carbonate, also known as copper carbonate, is a peacock green color, so it is also called malachite, a precious mineral gem. It is a substance produced by the reaction of copper with oxygen, carbon dioxide, and water in the air. It is also called copper rust, and its color is green. Heating in the air decomposes into copper oxide, water, and carbon dioxide. Soluble in acid and produce the corresponding copper salt. It is also soluble in aqueous solutions of cyanide, ammonium salts, and alkali metal carbonates to form copper complexes. When boiled in water or heated in strong alkali solution, brown copper oxide can be generated and decomposed at 200°C into black copper oxide. It is unstable in hydrogen sulfide atmosphere and reacts with hydrogen sulfide to produce copper sulfide. There are dozens of compounds present in basic copper carbonate with different ratios of CuCO3:H2O. It exists in the form of malachite in nature.
