What is Bis(methylthio)methane?
Dimethylthiomethane, called 2,4-dithiopentane according to the nomenclature of the Chinese chemical society, is an organic compound and the main component of truffle taste. It is often used as a synthetic fragrance to add to truffle oil and other products.
Dimethyl thiomethane can be condensed from methyl mercaptan and formaldehyde under the catalysis of hydrochloric acid.

It is reported to be found in Carmenere cheese and Gruyere cheese, milk, fish oil, cooked beef and canned beef, mushrooms, truffles, prawns and lobsters.
