Although (E, E) – 8,10-Dodecadien-1-ol has been reported as the sex pheromone of the apple moth [Laspeyresia pomonella (L.)], its existence in the moth has been questioned, mainly because it has not been isolated. The GC-MS data of partial purified extracts equivalent to 45 female moth abdomen tips were searched by computer, and a mass spectrum matching the real compound was generated. Other data also confirmed the existence of the compound.

Synthesis of 8,10-DODECADIEN-1-OL
