This colorless solid is usually used as a precursor of PEEK or polyetheretherketone, a so-called high-performance polymer. Due to its corrosion resistance, PEEK is commonly used for carbon fiber coating and cable insulation.

4,4 ‘- Difluorobenzophenone is acylated from fluorobenzene and p-fluorobenzoyl chloride. The conversion is usually carried out in petroleum ether solvent in the presence of aluminum chloride catalyst.
